GoldMine Premium Edition 8.5 has been officially released by FrontRange Solutions. This is a very exciting release with many new features. Many of our customers have asked us if and when they should upgrade. We typically take a very conservative approach to upgrades because we realize that you come to rely on GoldMine and we want to be sure that there are not any issues with upgrades that will hurt your current productivity. We have been testing GoldMine 8.5 since October or so and have not found significant issues not already identified and fixed by FrontRange Solutions. However, the tests were always in a demo sessions. We will be going live by end of this week with GoldMine 8.5 on our systems and will be testing them thoroughly. We would be happy to share our results with you as we learn more. In the interim, we would recommend waiting at least one or two weeks to do your internal upgrade.
Our internal upgrade will include testing with the following:
Goldbox
Quoteworks
HEAT Integration
Stonefield
Crystal
GISMO
GISME
Word/Excel Link
Mastermine
wMobile
Intelliclick

I am really excited about this new release and expect it to further increase our internal use and productivity with GoldMine. I know that the Universal Search alone will be huge for us to use in our daily work.

We've been waiting a long time for this release. I'm thrilled that Ticomix is checking it out first.
ReplyDeleteWill there be any upcoming training, or webinars that will show specific differences and benefits to upgrading to 8.5?
ReplyDeleteGoldMine 8.5 Compatibility with 3rd Party vendors:
ReplyDeleteI have been working with the primary vendors that we and our customer use with GoldMine. So far, I have talked to Mastermine, Stonefield Query, Quotewerks, Intelliclick, and WMobile. The general take is that they are testing, but want to test this final release. Here are specifics from each vendor:
MASTERMINE -- Everything has worked fine in VMWare environments, but they are doing final testing. They will have a new version coming up later that will take advantage of the new relationship trees.
STONEFIELD QUERY -- No problems identified yet, but still testing.
QUOTEWERKS -- They tested in on a clean install of 8.5 and everything seemed to work fine. Still testing the upgrade and hope to have it completed in a could of weeks.
wMobile -- At this point, it does NOT work with 8.5. They are working through the issues.
Intelliclick -- No problems.
As you can see, once FrontRange releases final product, there is a lot of work to do to ensure that when we go live or help a customer go live, there will not be issues.
We are still proceeding with our upgrade with the understanding that we will lose wMobile for awhile and the others aren't fully tested. This is only because we want to get 8.5 on our systems so we can give you (our customers) good feedback.

I just heard back from z-Firm about the OmniRush product and here is their official response:
ReplyDelete"Officially, no. GM PE 8.5 is not supported.
We recently began testing with GM PE 8.5 here and the preliminary discovery is that OmniRush jobs scheduled from GM get picked up, merged, and sent. But completed jobs are not posting to GM history. A short term work-around is to set the OmniRush track to not write to history.
This would be the solution until we have a supported version or hotfix. Sorry no ETA on this."
I'll keep you posted as we get more information.

We exchanged messages with RedStone Software -- makers of GoldBox. "Jury is still out on whether GoldBox 7 will handle 8.5. Redstone Softbase is currently investigating GoldBox 7 and how it works with GoldMine 8.5. They may update GoldBox 7 to accommodate the changes or it may require a new product. No timeframe has been set. GoldBox 7 does work with GoldMine 7.x and 8.0."
ReplyDeleteWe'll keep you posted.

Quotewerks Update:
ReplyDeleteI just received this communication from Quotewerks:
"I spoke with the developer and was told that the integration does work and can be used in our current release Version 4.0 Build 46, though it will be officially supported in an upcoming release. Official support will add 8.5 into the list of versions we integrate with under the Contacts > Setup Contact Manager Menu.
When integrating QuoteWerks with a fresh intallation of Goldmine 8.5, we have found no errors.
When integrating QuoteWerks with an installation of 8.5 that was upgraded from a previous version, you will encounter an error as Frontrange has made a field-level change which can be resolved with the information below.
Issue:
GoldMine
Database operation error:
Cannot insert the value NULL into column 'CONTACT', table 'GoldMine.dbo.CONTSUPP'; column does not allow nulls. INSERT fails.
Cause:
When updating to GoldMine Version 8.5 on the SQL backend the column ...Databases\GoldMine\Tables\dbo.CONTSUPP\Columns\CONTACT gets set to (varchar(40), not null) instead of (varchar(40), null).
Solution:
This can be corrected by modifying the column and checking the Allow Nulls box for that column using Enterprise Manager or SQL Server Management Studio Express.
"
Please let me or anyone here at Ticomix know if you have any questions on Quotewerks integration.
